5/24/2023 0 Comments Sibelius flip stems![]() ![]() I'd generally like the kick and hihat pedal stems to point down and for all of the other stems to point up. And I guess I'd use Voice 4 when I need to hit two of the other three at the same time. Same question about hitting two of these at once. (But what happens when I want to hit two at a time?) And Voice 2 for snare and toms. I use Voice 1 for cymbals and tinkly things. This voices thing is really non intuitive to me, none of the the other software that I tried out did this. I hope I'm not, I really want this to get easier! I'm still on the steep learning curve with Sibelius so I may not be doing things the best way. The menu still shows the key as a keyboard shortcut, but the X key doesn't seem to do anything anymore. Sibelius First 6.1.X will flip stems, but hitting the X key doesn't do it. First 6.1: Shortcut X no longer works as Edit>Flip? That's why you then have to flip it back to the "right" direction later on. If you flip a stem manually, Sibelius assumes you want that particular stem in the "wrong" direction (compared with standard notation) for some reason, and it keeps it in the "wrong" direction when you add more notes to the bar. ![]() I'm guessing you are trying to change the stems to their "final" directions too early, which is a waste of effort. When you add some another note, it will flip them again if it needs to. Sibelius doesn't know that you are going to enter more notes in a bar, so after each note it flips the stems and changes the beams to be correct assuming the bar is complete. When you have done that, the stems will probably be correct anyway. If you are using several voices to enter different rhythms on a drum part, the best way to work is (1) use voice 1 for the notes that are highest on the staff and voice 2 for lower notes, and (2) don't flip any stems while you are part way through entering the notes, wait till you have entered ALL the notes in all the voices in a bar. However I think you are not using Sibelius in the best way if you are having to flip the same stems more than once. ![]() This isn't an answer to your actual question, but it seems very odd that Sib 6 First won't flip stems at all. First 6.1: Shortcut X no longer works as E. Make sure you assign different midi channels to each of the four voices in the staff style and set their default step directions - you can always over-ride the defaults manually.Messages in this thread Sib. now with the lower voice of the two remaining selected - press the + to add a voice and yet another to add the 4th voice. You have now deleted the two bass clef voices. To modify the current one - Highlight the lower row in the staff style window and press delete to delete it and then the one above it to delete it. You can create a new staff or you can modify the current one. In the staff style window when you open the above 1 +2/3 +4 you selected a staff style where voice 1 and voice 2 are on the treble and voice 3 and 4 are on the bass. I can do a video if my explanation is unclear - let me know. Worked perfectly.īut I want to just have the treble staff (I'm writing for guitar players). I selected 1+2/3+4 and highlighted the notes I wanted as down stems. When I right click on the notes themselves to change the Note Attributes (making them down stems) they also pulled the soprano stems down as well.įirstly, thank you for the help with this. They were all up stems when I changed to channel 2. The lower notes in my photo are channel 2. You're correct that I only need to change the direction of the stems for printing but I want to understand your method for the future so I don't run into issues. However if you only require some of the stem directions changed then gacki's suggestion is much more straightforward. This can be useful if your whole piece, or a significant portion of it, is in 4 part harmony e.g. That way you can change the stem direction simply by changing the midi Chanel of the relevant note. You can set up polyphonic staves to display stem directions depending on the midi Chanel of the note.
